For workshops at Kendal climbing wall; do I have to be a member?

No, the meeting room is for everyone to use! You don’t have to be a member of the wall or pay for entry, you only pay for the workshop. You’ll just need to sign in at reception, then follow the signs to the workshop!

Can I bring my own sewing machine?

For workshops involving sewing machines, yes! I encourage you to get to know your machine. Make sure to bring your power cable, pedal, a few bobbins, a needle, and your manual (if you have it). You can often download a PDF of your manual for future reference. Make sure you test your machine at home to make sure it’s running. If it’s very old or has not been used for a long time, you may want to get it serviced first.

Can I borrow a sewing machine during a workshop?

Yes! I have 4 sewing machines available to borrow for just £5 pp/per session. You just need to add the “borrow a machine” option to your basket when you book your workshop. All machines are Janome domestic machines: well maintained and ready to go with bobbins, needles, thread and the manual.

I’ve never been to a workshop, what can I expect?

A friendly welcome! My workshops are inclusive and accessible. I keep group sizes small and the environment is warm and kind. I’ll start with introducing what we’ll cover in the session, an explanation of the tools and materials we’ll be using, and demonstrate techniques. Then it’s over to you to get stuck in! My workshops are very hands-on and practical. There are lots of physical examples to learn from, and there’s no such thing as a “silly question”. I’m here to encourage you to try things and have fun! We’ll usually have a break in the middle, but you are free to get up to use the loo or take a break whenever you like!

Who will be teaching me?

Me, Lauren! Founder of Iron Keld Repairs. Repair specialist, textile artist and long-time skills tutor. Customers tell me I’m patient and good at explaining things! I have decades of sewing, art, and craft experience. You can read more about me here, or get in touch and we can have a chat if you like. You can read my Google reviews here.

Can you service/repair my sewing machine?

I’m not a sewing machine mechanic, so no. I can help you to tune up your machine, set the tension and provide advice on how to clean and maintain your machine, but that’s as far as I go. I’d recommend contacting a sewing machine specialist if you require repairs or servicing.
