Workshop 6: Learn to use a sewing machine

Get to know your own sewing machine, or learn on one of ours!

Ever wondered what all those little feet attachment are for? How to balance your thread tension for perfect stitches? And what about all those needle choices???

We will start at the beginning; threading your machine and bobbin, adjusting thread tension, stitch lengths and trying out various stitches.

We’ll have a go at using different presser feet and discuss why they are useful. Fabric, thread, types of stitches will all be covered, as well as maintaining your machine and troubleshooting. This class will demystify sewing machines and give you the sewing bug! You’ll soon be confidently mending and making.

Enjoy learning in a small group (max 8) in a supportive and friendly environment. We’ll discuss common problems, plus handy tips and tricks.

All materials will be provided, but you are welcome to bring your own sewing kit if you like. Loan sewing machines are limited, so if you have your own sewing machine or you can borrow one from a friend, please do so.

After experimenting and getting comfortable with your machine, we will work on a little project for you to take home.
