Workshop 3: Sashiko & boro

Description

In this beginners workshop, we will go over the basics such as which types of fabric, threads and needles are best suited to this simple yet beautiful technique.

We will use simple stitches to create a range of traditional patterns and layering of fabric. Once you’ve learned the techniques you will be encouraged to explore and create your own patterns. 

Working on denim and cotton, you can make interesting patches to use in your repairs, or you can work directly onto your own garment. Holes can be patched and garments strengthened by building up layers of fabric and stitching. This technique embraces and celebrates imperfections whilst minimising waste. 

Enjoy learning in a small group (max 8) in a supportive and friendly environment. We’ll discuss how to tackle common repairs, plus handy tips and tricks.

All materials will be provided, but you are welcome to bring your own sewing kit if you like.

After mastering the basics, you will have the opportunity to work on your own garments which you can bring (jeans, shirts and denim jackets are perfect), embroider a patch to take home, or practice on the materials provided.
